Powers, roots and logarithms
yˣ raises Y to the power X. Combine it with 1/x for any root.
Problem
What is 1.05 to the 10th power? What is the cube root of 27? And the square root of 2 to four decimal places?
Keystrokes
- 1.05ENTER10yˣ
Y to the power X.
- 27ENTER31/xyˣ
The cube root is the power 1/3.
- 2g√xyˣ
Square root.
- f4
Shows four decimal places.
- f2
Back to two.
Answer
1.05¹⁰ is 1.63 (to two decimals), ∛27 is 3.00, and √2 is 1.4142.
Why it works
The calculator always keeps 10 significant digits, whatever the display shows. f followed by a digit only changes how many decimals you see, and f. switches to scientific notation.
gLN%T is the natural log and geˣ1/x its inverse. For a base-10 logarithm, divide by ln 10: gLN%T10gLN%T÷.
